GDPR Data Protection Officer

Data Protection Officers (Datenschutzbeauftragte) are mandatory appointments under GDPR Article 37 for organizations processing sensitive data at scale, responsible for advising on data protection compliance, monitoring GDPR adherence, cooperating with supervisory authorities, and serving as the contact point for data subjects. Germany has the strictest GDPR enforcement regime in Europe, with the Bundesdatenschutzgesetz (BDSG) adding additional national requirements. Certified DPOs are in short supply relative to the large number of German organizations requiring this function.
