Oceanographer

Oceanographers study ocean physical processes, marine ecosystems, chemical properties, and geological characteristics to advance scientific understanding and address practical challenges including climate change modeling, fisheries management, offshore energy development, and coastal hazard assessment. They work at research universities, national oceanographic institutes, oil and gas companies, and environmental consulting firms, using research vessels, moored instruments, satellites, and computer models. Growing offshore renewable energy development and climate science demand are expanding applied oceanography opportunities.
